The biggest event in the MCW calendar is back for 2023 – the Ballroom Brawl.
As is tradition, the Ballroom Brawl match will see 20 wrestlers battle in an over-the-top-rope match, with the last one standing receiving a future title opportunity against the MCW World Heavyweight Champion, at any time of their choosing within the next 12 months.
But it’s not that simple – the difference between success and failure could come down to when you enter the match. If you pick an earlier number, the odds will be stacked against you; get a later number, and your job becomes that much easier.
So, who’s in the Ballroom Brawl this year? So far we know that the following wrestlers will be taking their chance in the draw:
Entrant: Tome Filip
While we all know Tome Filip as a Tag Team wrestler, 2023 has seen him branch out into singles competition. With some wins under his belt, maybe now is the time for The Taiga to strike with a win in the Ballroom Brawl. We know he has the talent; all he needs is the perfect opportunity to claw his way to the top.
Entrant: Emman Azman
Emman already has a belt around his waist, but the Intercommonwealth Champion could set himself up to be a double champion with a win in the Brawl. He’s already proven himself to be a champion with honour, now he could be a champion drenched with gold! After all, he’s called Golden Boy for a reason.
Entrant: Edward Dusk
No other person has changed the landscape of MCW quite like Edward Dusk has this year. He’s introduced a brand-new style of match in The Sacrament, and he’s undefeated in those matches so far. Now he gets the chance to get the control we know he craves, and MCW may never be the same again if he wins.
Entrant: Jarvis
Few people have the ability to annoy the MCW Faithful quite like Jarvis does. But you know what’s really annoying? He’s got the skills to back up his loudmouth. With a title vs hair match against Delta on the same night, Jarvis has the perfect opportunity to prove he really is Built Different.
Entrant: The Parea
Gabriel Aeros and Eli Theseus are as accomplished in the ring as they are annoying outside of it. It would be a foolish person who overlooked their clear talents, and as the self-proclaimed Kings of MCW, they know just how good they are. After July 8th, we could all be bowing down to them.
Entrant: Slex
There’s no-one else in the Brawl with the pedigree of Slex, but while The Business has done most things in MCW, he’s never won the Ballroom Brawl. But with a clear determination and the skills that come with his level of experience, maybe 2023 is the year Slex gets that final accomplishment.
Entrant: Stevie Filip
We’ve known for years just how good Steve Filip is in the ring, but with a new attitude for 2023, this might be the year where we learn just how high The Phoenix can fly. Don’t sleep on Stevie’s potential in the Brawl – there won’t be many others quite as motivated as he’ll be.
Entrant: Jude London
Jude “The Dude” London is no stranger to high pressure situations. Now entering the Ballroom Brawl, this could be the perfect opportunity that the tag-team specialist is just as capable as a singles star. The Dude is going to all he can to shine in the Ballroom Brawl!
Entrant: Barry O’Leary
A lucky entrant to the 2023 Ballroom Brawl – Barry “Lucky” O’Leary has all of the tools and physique to go all the way – just ask him! This first time entrant is full of confidence and is happy to explain his workout routines and how you can get a body just like Barry!
Entrant: Paris De Silva
Wrestling fans across the nation know how spectacular Paris De Silva is, and as a member of the Velocities he has the history of gold to prove it. Now he enters the Ballroom Brawl as a singles competitor, and the Spartan Spirit could shock the world once more.
Entrant: Robbie Thorpe
The Gift is here to prove that he’s ready to make a real impact in Melbourne City Wrestling. And what better way to make an impact than to debut at our biggest event of the year. Robbie Thorpe enters the 2023 Ballroom Brawl on Saturday 8th July!
Entrant: Jake Taylor
Jake Taylor embodies the spirit of old school wrestling, bringing his passion for classic grappling to the 2023 Ballroom Brawl. His respect for the traditions of the past combined with his own unique style make him a true modern-day embodiment of the classic ’70s wrestling era and a strong threat in this year’s spectacle.
Ballroom Brawl 2023 will be available on FITE+ from Saturday 15th July at 7:30pm (AEST)
Tickets are sold out.
