Following the conclusion of New Horizons, Adam Brooks drew a line in the sand – he wanted Robbie Thorpe one-on-one in the ring. But while the two champions have a long and complicated history, there’s one thing yet to happen that could change everything.
Back when they were teammates in the ICON$, it’s fair to say that Brooks didn’t have much time for Thorpe. The two men really are polar opposites both in and out of the ring, but perhaps the crux of the problem was that Brooks never felt that Thorpe showed him the respect he deserved.
But one thing that even Brooks can’t deny is that Thorpe has talent, and that’s been evident long before Thorpe became the MCW World Heavyweight Champion. The big Englishman has been on an absolute tear recently.
The two men have met one-on-one in the MCW ring before – Brooksy’s current reign as Intercommonwealth Champion was started by defeating Thorpe for the belt; but that was well over a year ago, and Thorpe is a more complete wrestler now.
Anyone assuming that things will go exactly the same way may have a shock coming. On paper, the tangibles are clear to see – Thorpe has size, power and youth on his side, Brooks has speed, experience and fearlessness on his. But we all know that in a match, anything can happen.
Which is why it’s fitting that this match is happening at High Stakes – the most unpredictable night of the year. You see, we won’t know which title will be at stake until the Big Wheel spins – will it be Thorpe’s World Championship?
Will it be the Intercommonwealth Championship held by Brooks? Or maybe something even more unpredictable?
