When it comes to the gold standard of tag team wrestling in MCW, there’s one team that immediately comes to mind – Water Rapids.
The team of Mitch Waterman and Ryan Rapid have proven themselves against teams from across the country, and they’ve had an era defining MCW Tag Team Championship reign as they keep on racking up win after win.
Their seven – and counting – successful title defences is a new record, and it’s going to have to be a team that’s truly something special to end that reign.
The newly formed team of Lucky O’Leary and the MCW Intercommonwealth Champion The Clydesdale certainly think they’re special, and they are quickly making themselves known as a force to be reckoned with.
At High Stakes, in their first match teaming together, they dispatched The Physicals. Now they’ve set their sights a lot, lot higher.
And it’s a match-up that is intriguing in quite a few ways; if you look at the tangible strengths of each team, it’s pretty clear cut – the Water Rapids have the edge in speed and aerial ability, while Lucky & Clyde have the advantage in terms of size and strength. But crucially, neither have such a big advantage that it makes them a clear favourite.
But let’s look at the intangibles – the Water Rapids have experience on their side, both as a cohesive team, and also as champions. That can’t help but give them a mindset advantage as they have the belief that they can handle whatever is thrown at them, and they have the proven credentials to back that up.
But Lucky & Clyde have hunger on their side; The Clydesdale’s recent Intercommonwealth Championship win proves that he has what it takes to be a champion, and now he has a taste of gold, he wants more.
Lucky’s hunger comes from a different place – twice he’s been part of a losing team in trying to capture the MCW Tag Team Championship from the Water Rapids – once with Tony Villani, and once with Lucas Fantasia. This new pairing could be the one that seals the deal, meaning it could be the third time that really is the charm for Lucky.
No matter who you think will win, this promises to be a real spectacle in the ring, and we can’t wait for it!
