It’s said that the mark of a true champion isn’t how you perform while you’re the champ, it’s how you react after you lose the title.
Adam Brooks knows better than anyone what it takes to be a champion – his fifth reign as the Intercommonwealth Champion was the longest on record, and he also earned the record for the most title defences, including taking the title interstate and even overseas.
And while at Ballroom Brawl he lost the title to The Clydesdale, he also knows how important a quick rebound is after you lose the belt. You have to regain the momentum and your motivation so a single loss doesn’t turn into a form slump.
Then again, considering that Brooks is now in demand from some of the biggest wrestling promotions all over the world – AEW, TNA, DEFY – maybe that’s all the motivation anyone could need?
And if there’s one thing he’s definitely earned over the years, and now more than ever thanks to that championship reign and his travels overseas, it’s respect.
Ask anyone in Australian wrestling who they have the most respect for, and Brooks’ name will come up more than anyone else’s.
Unless you ask Mitch Ryder.
After a stunning MCW debut in the Ballroom Brawl match, where he came so close to winning it all after starting with an unenviable #3 entry, it’s clear that the confident Queenslander isn’t finished with MCW. And what better way to make an impact than by targeting a true legend in Brooks?
But here’s the thing – Ryder is as good as he says he is. Yes, Brooks may have the experience and reputation, but Ryder has a burning ambition to make his mark in MCW, and that hunger combined with his undeniable in-ring skills make him perhaps the biggest challenge Brooks has seen in years.
It’s been over two years since they faced each other in a ring – back in March 2024 in Wide Bay Pro Wrestling, Ryder and Brooks were on opposing tag teams. Ryder was part of the winning side that time, and he’ll be hell bent on doing the same in the Thornbury Theatre at Clash of the Titans.
Then again, Brooks has faced big challenges before, and more often than not he doesn’t just rise to the challenge, but he completely destroys it.
No matter who you think will win, this is going to be a hell of a match!
