It’s hardly a stretch to say that Robbie Thorpe is on absolute tear right now. Since he won the MCW Heavyweight Championship at End Game, he’s been close to untouchable.
Jarvis? Defeated.
Adam Brooks? Defeated.
Even the problem of Rocky Menero losing his role as General Manager hasn’t hurt him as Rocky promptly went out and got his manager’s license, so, it would be a brave person to suggest that 2026 would be anything but the Year of Thorpe.
And maybe, that’s where Matt Hayter comes into the equation.
The Adelaide mainstay made an immediate impact when following a shock win in the Six Man Scramble at Fight to Survive last year, he was entered into the Fatal Four Way match at End Game – the same match where Thorpe won the World Championship.
Following a heated series of match against Edward Dusk, it was his win against Dusk at High Stakes that set on a collision course with Thorpe, after the Big Wheel spun up the stakes making the winner the #1 Contender.
Is he brash? Yes. Is he as good as he thinks he is? He just might be.
So, in Robbie Thorpe you’ve got a man who has been quickly making a championship legacy, albeit with the help of Rocky Menero, and with Matt Hayter you’ve got a man who doesn’t shy away from being as flamboyant as possible, and the MCW faithful are starting to love him for it.
They’ve never met in the ring one-on-one, and while Thorpe may have the champion’s advantage, there is something truly unpredictable about Hayter that may tip the balance onto his side.
No matter, at Ballroom Brawl, this is going to be a hell of a battle!
