If there’s one man in MCW who’s been on a roll in recent months, it must be Lucky O’Leary.
Now a fully fledged member of the ICON$, his membership has only helped him go to a new level. But at Ballroom Brawl, he’s about to face his toughest test yet, and possibly win his biggest prize in the process.
Momentum is a real thing, especially in wrestling. It wasn’t that long ago that we were talking about all of Lucky O’Leary’s potential, while also pointing out that he’d yet to win a match in MCW. But once he got that first win under his belt by defeating a huge fan favourite in The Tuckman, he really hasn’t looked back.
And all those wins have really changed people’s perceptions of him – he’s no longer just that plucky wrestler who can’t get a win, now he’s someone to be feared in the ring. It’s been a remarkable journey, and one that no matter how you feel about him as a person, he should be applauded for.
But as you rack up the wins, the competition gets tougher too.
If there’s a yardstick for excellence in Australian wrestling, it has to be Adam Brooks. The current Intercommonwealth Champion really has done it all in MCW. He’s faced the best, and he’s beaten them all.
Which is why it’s interesting to see his thought process since he started his current championship reign – he’s facing a new generation of Australian talent, seemingly to see who can hang with him.
At High Stakes, he faced Ryan Rapid in a match many called one of the very best ever seen in MCW, and Rapid showed that he belonged in that ring just as much as Brooksy.
Now it’s O’Leary’s turn to test himself against the very best there is.
Knowing O’Leary, merely showing that he’s as good as Brooks won’t be enough; he’ll want to claim that championship for himself. But this is an opponent like no other – it’s not going to be an easy night for him.
No matter who wins, this promises to be an in-ring highlight at the biggest MCW show of the year!
