Anniversary – Erika Reid vs. Shay Kassidy

By Dan Steadman

At End Game, a warrior fell, and a champion was dethroned.

Despite her best efforts, Erika Reid couldn’t overcome the new force of nature that is Eugenie, and she left the ring without her MCW Women’s Championship.

While it was a pretty quick end to a reign, it showed that Erika gave all she could, even if on that night, it wasn’t quite enough.

But the mark of a true warrior is what they do after they fall; they rise to fight again.

Erika has already requested a rematch with Eugenie from General Manager Rocky Menero, but Rocky has denied her request, telling her that she’s not ready to face Eugenie yet. Instead he promised her a different match.

Over the last few months, the Backslide Girlz have been an entertaining if somewhat annoying presence in MCW. Both Kingsley and Shay Kassidy are definitely better wrestlers than they are singers, and we know that the duo loves to rile up the MCW faithful whenever they can, but when it comes down to it, both have the skills to win against anyone.

Maybe that’s their tactic – make their opponents underestimate them?

Now, at Anniversary, Erika Reid will embark on her road to redemption by facing Shay Kassidy one-on-one for the first time ever.

She already proved back at Vendetta last year that she can beat one of the Backslide Girlz with her win over Kingsley; can she do the same to her partner?

They have two very different approaches to getting the win in the ring, which makes this a very hard match to call, but for whoever wins, it puts them one step closer to challenging for the MCW Women’s Championship in the future.

Which definitely makes this a match everyone should be paying attention to.

MCW Anniversary 2025 is live from the Thornbury Theatre on Saturday 15th March.
