Since winning the MCW World Tag Team Championship at Ballroom Brawl last July, Mitch Waterman and Ryan Rapid have had a target on their backs.
After surviving a brutal three-way ladder match at End Game and keeping the titles around their waists, The Water Rapids are more determined than ever to prove their full potential to MCW and the world.
And what better way to do it than by silencing the biggest thorn in MCW’s side over the past two years – The ICON$?
The unlikely pairing of Tony Villani and Lucky O’Leary may not make immediate sense, but the more you think about it, the more you understand how they could pull off the ultimate upset.
Villani may not have been seen in the ring that often in recent times but not only is he in the best shape of his life, but he’s also got the skills that only a true ring veteran possesses.
Plus, as the right-hand man to MCW General Manager, there’s every chance that he could pull off some bending of the rules to gain a bit of an advantage.
And then you have Lucky O’Leary, a man who feeds on confidence. But his confidence may have taken a hit after his loss to Lucas Fantasia at End Game, so you can bet that he’s going to be extra determined to get back on a winning track. And we know that he’s also not adverse to doing whatever he can to win, rules be damned.
Of course, the big unknown is how they’ll gel as a team – there’s no shortage of ego between them, so staying on the same page may be a challenge.
And it’s a challenge that Rapid and Waterman won’t face – we’ve seen just how cohesive they are as a team, knowing exactly what the other is going to do, even during the most spectacular moves.
Add in the crowd support they are going to get in the Thornbury Theatre, and they are going to be very hard to beat.
One team out to remind the world why they’re champs; the other out to bring more gold back to the ICON$ – the stage is set.
